Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Farberware Specialties Mini SaucepanCustomer Review: Ideal for ME... Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted to replace an old Teflon-coated 5/8 qt. pan that I used for melting butter, as well as for heating small amounts of gravy or other items. I was searching for a good saucepan for this use that was not pricey. For about $10 this pan answered that need... and the pour spout on it really IS non-drip.
Cookware of this type is not meant to be used with any more than medium heat, but even on medium milk will still come to a boil in pretty much the same amount of time as if it were on high (that new layered technology in pans is nice). Because of the lower heat, you not only save some energy but milk never burns in the bottom. While the pan needs a minute's soak in hot water to loosen up the residue from milk, that residue comes out with no scrubbing. Cleans just as easily on the outside of the pan, too. Much better than the old Teflon pan.
The end of the handle closest to the pan will heat up so be careful, but as long as your hand is behind the inset "rubber" spot on the handle, you should have no problem as it stays cool from there to the end of the handle. The pan is good to 350 degrees in the oven, too, something else the old pans never did.
For $10 this is a nice little pan... a lot cheaper than the premium brands that charge you at least 3 times more for the same thing and does the job just as well. I have an Anolon 3 qt. pan that was given to me as a gift, I can't say I see any difference in performance, non-expert that I am.
Description of Farberware Specialties Mini SaucepanThis little pan takes up almost no space in your cabinet (or dishwasher) and is handy not only for melting butter but also for heating wine for risotto or re-heating a bit of gravy. It's pour spout allows you to pour without drips. Finally, it's simply the cutest little pan you'll have in your kitchen.
